APRIL 28, 2016 — Finland's Langh Tech is to deliver exhaust gas scrubber systems to two large cruise vessels under construction at Meyer Werft.
The two Norwegian Cruise Line Breakaway Plus class vessels will be equipped with hybrid type Langh Tech scrubbers, enabling unrestricted operation in closed loop mode.
The delivery includes scrubber units for all five engines on each ship and treatment plants for the scrubber water.
"The scrubber tower is of our design but will be manufactured at the shipyard. The components for the water treatment plant will be manufactured at our production facility at Piikkiö, Finland, and delivered to the shipyard," says Laura Langh-Lagerlöf, Commercial Director of Langh Tech.
The order is Langh Tech's first for cruise ship newbuildings, although it has previously delivered scrubber water treatment systems for several scrubber retrofits on vessels in the Royal Caribbean International and Celebrity Cruises fleets.
"We have put a lot of effort into entering this sector, as there seems to be a demand for scrubber solutions especially on newbuildings," says Ms. Langh-Lagerlöf. "After all, many cruise vessels operate in ECA and despite low prices on low sulfur MDO and MGO there is still a large price gap in favor of HFO."
