Satcom services provider rebrands as Marlink

FEBRUARY 25, 2016 — The commercial satellite communication division of Airbus Defence and Space is soon to be acquired by French private equity firm Apax Partners, but has already been rebranded as Marlink.

That's a somewhat more memorable name than some that the business has operated under and was created back in 2002 when Telenor Satellite Services acquired Comsat Mobile Communications and Sait Communications. Since then, various other acquisitions have followed and the new Marlink has 600 employees and 27 offices worldwide and claims to be the leading maritime communication and VSAT operator in the world thanks to strong partnerships with all major satellite network operators.

The rebranded Marlink says it will "pioneer highly reliable, flexible and future-proof business critical communication solutions for maritime and land customers through its established direct and indirect sales channels," using a segment-based approach to deliver best-fit connectivity technology and solutions for its maritime customers in Shipping, Offshore, Oil & Gas, Cruise & Ferry, Yachting and Fishing, as well as for its land-based enterprise customers.

Marlink's portfolio of multi-band satcom and digital solutions includes VSAT (Ku-, Ka-, C-band), MSS (L-Band) and M2M and its value-added-services include the XChange service delivery platform and the SkyFile software suite.
