DECEMBER 4, 2012 — Cummins Inc. (NYSE: CMI) will be launching its full Tier 3 line of diesel engines for the commercial marine industry, from 6.7 to 60 liters, at the International Workboat Show in New Orleans this week.
Cummins announced the availability of its U.S. EPA Tier 3 certified QSK19 and QSK60 marine engines a few days ago. Cummins Tier 3 solutions apply advanced combustion technology to reduce emissions in-cylinder without the need for aftertreatment. Cummins says itsTier 3 marine product line will serve as the platform for meetingfuture, more stringent emissions controls in the U.S. and globally.

"With minimal changes to engine architecture, integrating the Tier 3 products into existing vessel designs is not difficult. Customers will continue to see world-class reliability, durability and performance from the next generation Quantum Series engines."
Requiring a 50% reduction in particulate matter (PM) and a 20% reduction in nitrogen oxides (NOx) compared to Tier 2 standards, the EPA's Tier 3 marine emissions regulation went into effect January 1, 2012 for Cummins engines between 3.5 and 7.0 liters per cylinder and continues through 2014. The QSK60 is the only engine in Cummins marine portfolio requiring EPA Tier 3 certification in 2012; the QSK19 is not required to meet EPA Tier 3 until January 1, 2013.
The Tier 3-certified QSK19 and QSK60 feature the same premium base engine hardware and footprint as the existing MCRS product. Further, the lubrication, cooling, air handling, fuel and exhaust systems are the same design as the current product ensuring minimum disruption for series-built vessels or replacement engines. As with Tier 2, Tier 3 engines will be available with Cummins C Command panels, CENTINEL Oil Management System and the ELIMINATOR filter to help monitor and reduce the cost of operation and maintenance.
The QSK19, with Tier 3 ratings from 660 to 750 hp, and the QSK60, with ratings between 2000 and 2700 hp, are ideally suited for high-hour demanding applications including offshore support, towing, cargo and passenger transport, as well as ship¹s service power and diesel electric applications. In fact, Cummins Quantum Series MCRS auxiliary engines were specifically designed for light load operation, while also being capable of providing full power to meet the variable power demands of diesel electric applications. The QSK engines' Modular Common Rail (MCRS) fuel system featuring closed nozzle injectors and electronic control system allow for speed stability at all load and speed conditions.
The QSK19 and QSK60 Tier 3-certified engines are covered by a comprehensive one year warranty, valid at authorized Cummins service outlets worldwide. In addition, the engine is backed by Cummins Mobile QuickServe program.
