May 8, 2008 5,750 bhp U.S.-flag tug sold overseas
Crowley Maritime Services of Seattle has sold its U.S. flag, twin screw tug "Sea Flyer" to West African interests. The 136 ft x 36.5 ft x 19.2 ft depth tug was built in 1968 by J.R. McDermott; Amelia, Louisiana. Tug was classed ABS +A1, Towing Service, +AMS. Unrestricted Service. It is powered by a pair of EMD 16-645E5 diesels developing a total of 5,750BHP at 900RPM to 5-blade 120 inch x 99 inch 5-blade stainless steel open props. Bollard pull is abt. 135,000 lb ahead and abt. 95,000 lb astern. Tug was lying idle in Lake Charles, Louisiana at the time of the sale. Marcon International, Inc. of Coupeville, Wash. acted as the sole broker in the sale.
