Elisabeth Grieg is Norwegian Shipowners new president
The annual General Assembly of the Norwegian Shipowners' Association (NSA) has chosen Elisabeth Grieg (48) CEO of Grieg International AS, Oslo, as new president. Ms. Grieg was unanimously proposed, and succeeds Trygve Seglem of Knutsen OAS Shipping who has been president for the last two years.
Elisabeth Grieg is the first female President of the NSA. Thor Jørgen Guttormsen from Leif Høegh & Co in Oslo and Stig Remøy from Olympic Shipping AS in Fosnavg were elected Vice Presidents.
"I am humbled, excited and motivated to take on the position as President of the Norwegian Shipowners' Association," says Ms Grieg. "Together with the other members of the Board and the Association's staff, I want to promote value creation and employment in the shipping industry, and focus on environmental targets and corporate social responsibility which are the prevailing hallmarks of shipowners throughout Norway. As the industry's figurehead, I will be seeking to help make Norway's voice better heard in international forums, in terms of higher environmental standards, seafarers' work and pay conditions and competence development. The industry encapsulates a lot of responsibility and great potential, and has major contributions to make. I am very pleased to be playing an active role."
Elisabeth Grieg is co-owner of the Grieg Group and a member of the founding family. Grieg Shipping Group owns one of the world's largest fleets of open hatch general cargo ships. Other Grief Group activities include shipbroking, fish farming and processing, global logistics, insurance broking and asset management.
Elisabeth Grieg was the 2006 winner of the Personality of the Year award of WISTA, the Women's International Shipping and Trading Association.
