June 25, 2008 Still American, but no longer AkerAker American Shipping ASA--which owns and leases out the Jones Act tankers built at Aker Philadelphia Shipyard--today held an extraordinary general meeting, The meeting follows Aker ASA's reduction of its stake in the company from 53.2% to 19.9%. The meeting decided, among other things, to change the name of the company to American Shipping Company ASA. The company will be listed under a new ticker, "AMSC," as soon as the change of name has been officially registered. In addition, some changes were made in the board of directors, whose members are now: Robert (Bob) N. Caruso (chairman), Gary Mandel, Annette Malm Justad, Hege Yli Melhus and John Rose.
