February 26, 2008 House panel holds hearing on USCG and MARAD budgetsThe House Subcommittee on Coast Guard and Maritime Transportation held a hearing today on the FY 2009 Budget requests for the Coast Guard and Maritime Administration. A hearing on the FMC budget originally planned for today will now be held in March. Most of the focus was on the Coast Guard--including the extent to which its maritime safety mission has been overshadowed by its homeland security obligations and what the Coast Guard is doing to restore balance.
