House panel holds hearing on USCG and MARAD budgets
The House Subcommittee on Coast Guard and Maritime Transportation held a hearing today on the FY 2009 Budget requests for the Coast Guard and Maritime Administration.
A hearing on the FMC budget originally planned for today will now be held in March.
Most of the focus was on the Coast Guard--including the extent to which its maritime safety mission has been overshadowed by its homeland security obligations and what the Coast Guard is doing to restore balance.
Interestingly, Ranking Republican Steve LaTourette raised the issue of the MARAD request yet again underfunding Title XI
