February 7, 2008 CMA CGM orders cruise yachts at FincantieriFrance's CMA CGM has signed an MOU with Fincantieri covering construction of two luxury cruise yachts for its Compagnie des Iles du Ponant (CIP) operation. CMA CGM plans to invest upwards of Euros 200 million in the two 140 m long vessels, which will each have 130 all-exterior cabins and suites, 75 percent of them with balconies. Delivery is slated for the latter part of 2010. According to French business daily Les Echos, they will be registered in the French overseas territory of Wallis and Fortuna and thus fly the French flag. Compagnie des Iles du Ponant currently operates threeluxury cruise yachts, Le Ponant, Le Levant and Le Diamant with respectively 32, 45 and 115 cabins each.
