One dead in collapse of Quincy crane
NECN reports that one person is dead in an accident at the Fore River Shipyard in Quincy, Massachusetts.
Part of the yard's giant Goliath crane collapsed as workers were trying to dismantle it.
The victim has been identified as Robert Harvey, a 28-year-old ironworker from Weymouth.
Four other workers sustained non-life threatening injuries.
The 25-story crane is being dismantled in preparation for shipment to Romania, where it will be put back into use at Daewoo Mangalia Heavy Industries.
The crane is the largest gantry crane in North America. General Dynamics erected Goliath more than 30 years ago to lift giant spherical tanks into LNG tanks. It hasnŐt operated since General Dynamics closed the shipyard in 1986.
