Leadership changes at Singapore's PPL Shipyard

Douglas Tan has been appointed Managing Director of Sembcorp Marine's PPL Shipyard with effect from July 8, 2007, following the retirement of Ong Tian Khiam on the same date.

SembCorp Marine thanked Ong for his dedicated service and invaluable contributions to the group, in particular PPL Shipyard, Ong, aged 65, has been the Managing Director of PPL Shipyard since 1997, having held several senior positions in Sembawang Maritime, Sembawang Bethlehem and Karimun Sembawang Shipyard.

Tan, 58 years old, has served as Senior General Manager at PPL Shipyard.

With more than 38 years of experience in the oil and gas business, Tan is an industry veteran who has spent a large part of his working life was spent at PPL Shipyard, managing the construction and delivery of jack-up and semi-submersible rigs, offshore marine structures and specialized crafts.

Following graduation from the National University of Taiwan in 1969, Tan had his first taste of rig building when he joined Far East Levingston Shipbuilding in Singapore.

He later moved to Bethlehem Shipyard in Singapore, after having spent some time in Texas at Levingston's fabrication yard in Orange and at Baker Marine Corporation in Ingleside.

He obtained his MSc in Mechanical Engineering from Lamar University, Texas whilst working in United States.

Royce Lim, aged 38, will become Senior General Manager at PPL Shipyard with effect from April 16, 2007. He formerly held the positions of General Manager (Operations & Engineering) at PPL Shipyard and General Manager (Corporate Development) and Quality Management Representative at Sembawang Shipyard.

He joined Sembawang Shipyard in 1994 as an engineer, the same year he graduated from the University of Newcastle-Upon-Tyne, United Kingdom, with a Bachelor of Marine Engineering (Hons) degree under a Sembawang Shipyard Scholarship.

Since 1994, he has held various appointments as Ship Repair Manager, Production Manager, Marine Manager (Operations), Corporate Development Manager and Assistant General Manager.
