May 11, 2007 Somali pirates strike again The Mombasa based Seafarers Assistance Program says armed pirates have hijacked a merchant ship belonging to the United Arab Emirates off the coast of Somalia. A Kenya Broadcasting Corporation report quotes Seafarers Coordinator, Andrew Mwangura as saying the pirates hijacked the vessel Thursday with an unknown number of crew aboard and commandeered it to Hobyo, about sixteen kilometers North of Mogadishu. Negotiations for the release of the cargo ship and hostages are reportedly underway. |
