Jury finds two AMO officials guilty
The National President of the American Maritime Officers, (AMO), Michael McKay, and his brother, the National Secretary-Treasurer, Robert McKay have been found guilty of racketeering charges by a jury in Fort Lauderdale federal court.
In addition to the racketeering charge, Michael Mckay was convicted on three counts of mail fraud and two recordkeeping offenses. He was found not guilty of embezzling from an employee benefit plan. Robert McKay was also convicted on two counts of mail fraud, embezzlement, and two recordkeeping offenses.
According to the South Florida Sun-Sentinel, prosecutors said the case "boiled down to the brothers running the union like it belonged to them and using it as their personal piggy bank."
