Samsung gets order for world's largest drillship
Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) has announced a US$550 million order to build the worlds largest drill ship for Norway's Ferncliff Drilling AS.
The drillship will be 222 meters long, and will be built over 34 months to operate in South American and West African regions from February 2009.
Samsung describes the ship as "an upgraded version of existing drill ships" that retains used drilling mud and fluids on board with a "Zero Discharge System."
Samsung says it will have a "high tech automatic location control system that allows safe drilling in sea areas with heavy waves and wind."
