Maritime Administrator nomination withdrawn
The latest casualty in the DP World furor is the nomination of David C. Sanborn as U.S. Maritime Administrator.
Sanborn, a graduate of the United States Merchant Maritime Academy, joined Dubai-owned DP World in 2005 and was its Director of Operations for Europe and Latin America when nominated for the Marad job back in January. He previously held senior roles with shipping lines CMA-CGM (Americas), APL Ltd and Sea-Land and has been based, besides the U.S., in Brazil, Europe, Hong Kong and Dubai during his career. He has also served in the U.S. Naval Reserve.
Earlier this month, Senator Bill Nelson (D.-Fla.) said he was putting a block on the Sanborn nomination until the issue of DP World's disposal of P&O North America was resolved.
Yesterday, a brief White House announcement listed the Sanborn nomination as being withdrawn.
