Fincantieri eyeing Philadelphia site
Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri is reportedly taking a look at leasing the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard site being vacated this month by Metro Machine Corp. The site includes the Navy Yard's Dry Dock No. 3, which is 984 feet long and 114 feet wide, and Dry Dock No. 2, which is 718 by 79 feet.
According to Philadelphia press reports, Rep. Curt Weldon (R., Pa.) and Rep. Robert A. Brady (D., Pa.) "have been working with Fincantieri officials since last fall."
The speculation is that Fincantieri would use the site to build LCS type vessels. Fincantieri is a member of the Lockheed Martin led LCS team.
