World's fastest 6,655 TEU containership

Hanjin Shipping is to deploy Hanjin Bremerhaven, which it says is the world's fastest 6,655TEU containership, on its Asia-Europe trade.

Hanjin Bremerhaven was christened on July 5 at Hyundai Heavy Industries and is scheduled for deployment on the FEX (Far East Europe Express Service) on July 11, 2006.

It is the first of a series of eight 6,500 TEU-class newbuildings ordered by Hanjin Shipping.

Its speed of 27 knots (50 km/h) is one knot higher than that of recently-built 9,000 to 10,000TEU vessels. The higher speed means Hanjin Bremerhaven can shorten the transit time of the Asia-Europe trade by two days.

Hanjin Bremerhaven is 304 m long with a beam of 40 m and has an engine output of 93,000 hp.
