January 19, 2006 Bender in $10 million expansion
The Mobile Register reports Bender Shipbuilding & Repair Co. is to add 150 jobs over the next three years as part of a $10 million expansion of its Mobile, Alabama, Shipyard. The newspaper quotes Bender officials as saying that the company plans to expand is steel plate shop and panel assembly line by about 40 percent each and construct a new building for ship assembly. According to the Mobile Register story, Bender CFO Joseph Mangin says that new contracts that the company has signed have absorbed all its capacity "and the calls just keep pouring in."
Meantime, the Mobile Register story quotes Mangin as saying "we're turning away contracts that we want to keep." It also quotes the CFO as saying the expansion is based not on the pursuit of a specific contract but on Bender's long term projections for shipbuilding demand. |
