April 21, 2006 No U.S. Navy agreement on pirates
The U.S. Department of State has denied reports that the U.S. Navy has agreed to help the transitional government of Somalia deal with pirates. Those reports said that the Navy would also help the transitional government set up a Coast Guard. In response to a question at its April 18 daily press briefing on the nature of the reported agreement the State Department responded:
