Alion to acquire JJMA

Alion Science and Technology, based in McLean, Va., says it has agreed in principle to acquire John J. McMullen Associates (JJMA).

The proposed transaction, which is subject to the execution of a definitive agreement, is designed to strengthen Alion's support of U.S. Navy programs while opening up new civilian and commercial opportunities. The transaction is expected to close in April 2005.

"JJMA is one of the most respected companies in marine engineering and programmatic support to the U.S. Department of Defense," said Alion's Chairman and CEO, Dr. Bahman Atefi. "This acquisition will help us further our support of the U.S. Navy, U.S. Coast Guard and Marine Corps with practical, technically-advanced systems and solutions. It will also present new opportunities in the commercial world. The acquisition of JJMA will fit perfectly with our strategy of disciplined growth while enhancing our value to the defense community."

JJMA President, P. Thomas Diamant, said that the acquisition is the right move at the right time for the company. "We've been successful for the past 48 years by providing solid engineering capabilities with smart program management. By joining with Alion, we can build on this foundation to deliver results to a broader spectrum of defense, commercial and international customers," he said.

Alion Science and Technology is a privately-held, employee-owned company that describes itself as a "leading, global research and development company primarily serving the U.S. Government."
