Stowaways found in LA containers

Thirty two Chinese stowaways have been found in two shipping containers at the Port of Los Angeles. According to a Los Angeles Times report, they were discovered Saturday after a crane operator spotted some of them emerging from a hole in one of the containers.

The newspaper reports port officials as saying the containers had been loaded onto the Panamanian-flag NYK Athena about two weeks ago during a stop in Shekou, China.

The newspaper says the incident is the first case of container stowaways at the port in nearly a year.
