Cuban yard delivers cat ferry
Holland's Damen Shipyards could be poised to use its Cuban operation, Damex Shipbuilding & Engineering, in Santiago de Cuba, as an entry point into the Caribbean and South American Market for fast ferries.
Earlier this month, Damex delivered a Damen Fast Ferry 3009. It is the first of two catamaran ferries that will be used for service between Batabanoa and Isla de Juventud, Cuba.
The catamaran, named Rio Las Casas, was built under license from Damen Shipyards Gorinchem in the Netherlands.
Materials were delivered as a prefabricated shipbuilding kit from the Damen Shipyards Gorinchem in the Netherlands and Damen Shipyards Singapore, Singapore.
