Marina PDSVA is the shipping unit of Venezuelan state oil company PDVSA. SADRA (Sherkate Sanati Daryai Iran--Iran Marine Industrial Company) is an Iranian company with yards in Bushehr and on the Caspian Sea. Its current projects include a sries of five 248 m Aframax tankers for the National Iranian Tanker Company.

The MOU between Marina PDVSA and SADRA will address the newbuilding requirements in Marina PDVSA's 2005-2012 business plan. It will also look at the future possibilities for cooperating on LNG ship construction in both Venezuela and Iran.

The MOU with SADRA follows earlier announcements that Venezuela has been exploring shipbuilding ventures with Brazil and Argentina.
