August 24, 2005 BRAC spares New London sub base, Portsmouth Naval Shipyard According to media reports the Defense Base Realignment and Closure Commission today voted 7-1 with one abstention to keep open the U.S. Navy's New London submarine base in Groton, Connecticut. The BRAC Commission also voted to keep open the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in Portsmouth, Maine.
