August 11, 2005 Turkey charges cruise attack plot suspect Stirring memories of the 2000 attack on the USS Cole and the 2002 attack on the Limburg, a suspect in a Turkish court today bragged to reporters that he had been planning to attack Israeli cruise ships and had prepared a ton of explosives. Last week, Israel's Transportation Minister Meir Sheetrit ordered four cruise ships carrying some 3,500 passengers not to dock at the Turkish port of Alanya. Instead the ships diverted to Cyprus. Today, a Syrian national identified as as Lu'ai Sakra, appeared in an Istanbul court was formally charged with being a member of an outlawed organization. After he had been led into the court, Sakra called out to journalists that he had planned to attack Israeli ships.
