August 11, 2005 HHI wins order for four 9,700 TEU box ships Korea's Hyundai Heavy Industries Co. (HHI) reports that it has received an order worth $530 million from C.P. Offen of Germany for four (4) 9,700 TEU containerships. The vessels will have a length of 350 m, width of 42.8 m, depth of 27.2 m and a service speed of 25.3 knots. Each vessel will have a 93,000 brake horsepower engine. The ships are set to be delivered by 2008. Hyundai Heavy Industries (including its Samho Heavy Industries unit) now has 70 super-large containerships over 8,000 TEU on its order book, claiming a 40 percent share of the global containership market share. Its orders include the four 10,000 TEU ships ordered by China's COSCO in January. HHI has secured orders for 76 ships worth $7.9 billion this year, bringing its backlog to 250 ships, worth more than $20 billion.
