HUG Engineering to join diesel development cooperation

Wärtsilä and ABB Turbo Systems intend to extend their existing cooperation on the development of two-stage turbocharged medium speed diesel engines by bringing in a third partner: after treatment specialist HUG Engineering, based in Elsau, Switzerland.

The object of the new joint project is to develop an innovative compact selective catalytic reduction (SCR) system tailored to operate with two-stage turbocharging.

Under the envisaged agreement, the three companies will aim for further expansion of flexible engine operation with reduced NOx emissions and optimized fuel consumption, along with savings in first cost and life cycle costs. They will combine their expertise and resources to achieve early readiness for market of a new combined SCR and turbocharging solution and its integrated application on the engine.
