STX France to build sand dredge at Brittany yard
STX France Lorient SAS has just signed a contract with STFMO (Societe de Transports Fluvio-Maritimes de l'Ouest), a subsidiary of Sablieres de l'Atlantique, for the construction of a sand dredge.
This order is the first placed with STX Lorient since 2008. Currently it has just one vessel under construction at its Lanester, Brittany, shipyard - an OPV70 patrol vessel under construction for Raidco Marine International destined for the Royal Moroccan Navy that is scheduled for delivery at the end of 2010.
STX France says the sand dredge order will give the Lanester shipyard the opportunity to establish itself inon a new and highly competitive market at a national and European level.
STX Lorient has paid particular attention to the hydrodynamic optimization of the ship to reduce fuel consumption - one of the essential points in the client's economic model.
