Deltamarin books ferry design contracts
Finland's Deltamarin has won orders from both sides of the Atlantic for new passenger ferry designs.
Caledonian Maritime Assets Ltd., Scotland, has ordered the concept design for two small RoPax ferries (95 m and 35 m). Societe des Traversiers du Quebec, Canada, has retained Deltamarin's services for work related to a new Matane - Baie-Comeau - Godbout ferry.The work is to be performed by a consortium of Deltamarin and Canadian naval architecture and marine engineering company Navtech Inc. and Deltamarin andncludes concept design for tendering purposes as well as supervision during the construction, trials and commissioning of the ship.
Both companies have named sustainable design and excellent energy efficiency as important design criteria.
Caledonian Maritime Assets plans to start a fleet replacement program in the near future. The two RoPax ferries will operate around the Scottish mainland and islands. Two of Deltamarin's partners also involved in the project. They are Safety at Sea Ltd. (simulations, maneuvering and seakeeping) and SeaTec Ltd. (port interface, risk management and environmental management).
