STX Europe delivers car passenger ferry
Delivered from STX Europe's Helsinki yard to Brittany Ferries, the Armorique is a new type of car passenger ferry developed by the shipbuilder in close cooperation with the owner. It is designed to be particularly fuel efficient as well as environmentally-friendly by keeping CO2 emissions to a minimum.
Worth around € 110 million, the ship provided some 700 man-years of work for the yard.
The vessel is designed to carry passengers, cars and road cargo vehicles between Roscoff, France, Plymouth, England.
The 168.3 m x 26.8 m vessel has an operating speed of 23 knots and top speed of 25 knots. Two-deck loading and discharge allows for fast turnaround times in ports. The 980 lane meters of vehicle space can accommodate 470 cars or some 60 trucks.
With a 1,500 passenger capacity, Armorique features a large shopping area, dedicated areas for teenagers, a cinema, and a variety of bars, restaurants and lounges. There are reclining seats for day passengers. A total of 248 cabins, including a small number of suites, provide overnight accommodations for a maximum of 780 passengers,
The hull of the vessel is identical to that of the Cotentin delivered from STX Europe in Helsinki, however the Armorique has a much larger upper deck passenger area.
