MSC orders two cruise ships from Alstom
Switzerland's Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) has selected Alstom Marine two build its next series of cruise ships. It has placed an order with Alstom for two 1,275 cabin, 294 m long, 32.2 m beam vessels, with an option for a third. The contract is subject to the arranging of financing by MSC.
The ships are of a new design with 80% exterior cabins, three quarters of which will have balconies. Passenger capacity will be about 3,000, with a crew of about 1,000.
The first ship is slated for delivery in June 2006, the second in spring 2007.
Alstom delivered the 800 cabin MSC Lirica in March 2003 and is due to deliver the sister MSC Opera in May.
