BMT acquires B.C. naval architect

BMT Fleet Technology Ltd, a subsidiary of British Maritime Technology Ltd (BMT), has acquired Vancouver, B.C., based naval architecture and marine engineering consultancy Peter S. Hatfield Ltd. This follows the opening of a BMT office in Victoria, B.C., earlier this year and a range of new contract awards in the region.

The deal gives BMT an extensive portfolio of vessel designs including tugs, offshore supply vessels, patrol and scientific vessels, fireboats, ferries, fishing vessels, barges and ice-capable vessels.

The acquisition will operate under the BMT Fleet Technology name as the Hatfield Division. Gordon Passmore, who is currently Engineering Manager at Peter S. Hatfield, will lead the Hatfield office as Division Manager with Peter Hatfield retained as a Senior Consultant. The division will report to BMT Fleet Technology's Pacific Manager, David Stocks.

BMT Fleet Technology's President Ian Glen comments: "This acquisition will give us additional resources to serve clients better on the Pacific coast. The company has a good reputation and work ethic which will fit well with that of BMT."

Glen continues: "Peter S. Hatfield has considerable experience in vessel design, materials handling as well as cost estimating and the tendering process, which will compliment BMT Fleet Technology's existing expertise."
