September 8 2004 Rochester-Toronto fast ferry suspends operations Canadian American Transportation Systems yesterday shut down its high speed ferry service between Rochester, N.Y. and Toronto. The last ferry left Toronto for Rochester at 7.00 p.m. yesterday. Canadian American Transportation says the shutdown is a "suspension" of service and according to local media reports is blaming factors such as a delay in getting U.S. Customs to permit trucks to be transported. Reportedly, the company is having problems servicing a $1.7 million load of debt. According to one report, the company says resumption of service will not be later than April 15, 2005.
