Using information technology to enhance port security
Sponsored by the Ports and Harbors Committee of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), "Ports 2004: Port Development in a Changing World" will include a presntation by Jim Ligotti, Vice President Maritime Solutions, Ingersoll-Rand Security & Safety Solutions.
Ligotti will present real-life tactical examples of how ports and maritime facilities have increased security by utilizing information technology to connect the openings, assets and people working in and around the facility to one central database essentially creating facility-wide integration.

Over the past two years, Ligotti has personally executed security assessments at nearly 60 ports and private terminals and met with top officials of port authorities and global shipping companies around the world. He currently serves on the Technical Advisory Council of the Port Security Planning Branch of the United States Coast Guard Marine Safety Office, based in Philadelphia.
