January 14, 2004 NCL newbuild takes on water The NCL newbuilding Pride of America is grounded at the fitting out pier at Lloydwerft, Bremerhaven, Germany and listing 20 degrees, after taking in "millions of liters" of water through a break in the side. The lower three decks are under water. The incident happened shortly after midnight in extremely stormy conditions and three workers are reported inhured.
Pride of America is the ship that was half-built at Northrop Grumman, Pascagoula, Miss., under the ill-fated Project America venture, then towed to Germany for completion. |
