New home for Tampa repair yard?

The Saint Petersburg Times reports that Tampa, Fla., shiprepairer Gulf Marine Repair Corp. may have found a new location. The newspaper says it is negotiating to buy Tampa Electric Co.'s shuttered power plant on Hooker's Point, about a half-mile south of property the repairer now leases from the Tampa Port Authority.

The yard's current lease with the Port runs out in early 2006. Gulf Marine's present site will become s corner of Port Ybor, a development slated for warehouses and office buildings.

When Tampa Electric asked for bids on the Hooker's Point plant in May, reports the St Petersburg Times, owner Aaron Hendry made an offer for another of his marine service businesses, Hendry Corporation, to buy the 26-acre site and lease it to the shipyard.
