Ingalls negotiating for rig work

The Biloxi, Miss., Sun Herald reports that Northrop Grumman Ship Systems wants to dredge 2.1 acres of the East Pascagoula River to allow its Ingalls Shipbuilding unit to work on offshore drilling rigs for an unnamed customer.

The newspaper says that the company has filed a request with the Corps of Engineers and the Mississippi Department of Marine Resources to modify a dredging permit to allow it to rework a launch area and deepen it from 38 to 50 feet.

Jim McIngvale, a spokesman for Northrop Grumman, would not name the offshore company involved but said he expects a deal will be announced in the next few weeks.
