Senesco Marine books fourth 80,000 bbl OPA barge order

Senesco Marine, Quonset Point, R.I., has signed a contract to build its fourth 80,000-barrel, double-hulled liquid fuel barge. Construction of this new, environmentally friendly vessel has already begun and is expected to be complete by September of 2004.

In January, Senesco Marine launched its first 80,000-barrel, double-hulled barge for Sea Boats, Inc. of Fall River, Mass. In May, the company launched the "Leo," another 80,000-barrel double-hulled barge, for the Hawaiian Inter Island Towing Company, which leased the vessel to Sirrius Maritime of Seattle, Wash. Last month, Senesco Marine announced another order from Sea Boats for an 80,000-barrel double-hulled barge, Inc. of Fall River.

The latest, fourth, contract is for an undisclosed client and is for a barge certified to carry Grade "A" and lower petroleum products.

Senesco Marine CEO Gary Schuler said the latest contract was a validation that Senesco Marine's new on-time design, build and delivery process was taking hold within the industry.

"As America's barge owners move to comply with the federal Oil Pollution Act, we have tapped Guarino & Cox as our strategic design partners and shifted our manufacturing resources to increase the speed with which we can design and manufacture double-hulled barges," said Schuler. "We're pleased to see that our strategic changes are being well received by the industry.
