Fire on HAL newbuilding
Holland America Line, a unit of Carnival Corporation & plc (NYSE: CCL; LSE)(NYSE: CUK) today reported that its cruise ship under construction at the Fincantieri Shipyard in Marghera, Italy has experienced a fire.
A fire began on the stern section of the 82,000-ton vessel at approximately 7:30 a.m. local time on October 17 and was extinguished by 11 a.m. local time. No injuries were reported.
The extent of damage to the ship cannot be fully determined at this time. To be named Westerdam, the 1,848-passenger vessel is scheduled for delivery on April 15, 2004.
