July 20, 2003 Now Cianbro eyes cruise ship market U.S. East Coast construction giant Cianbro Corporation has its eyes on the cruise ship market. Cianbro is the company that is currently completing construction, in Portland, Maine, of two Amethyst semi-submersible offshore rigs for Petrobras. The project had originally been underway at bankrupt FGH in Mississippi. The Petrobras project is on schedule and work is expected to wind down towards year's end. It has, apparently, given Cianbro a taste for maritime projects. The Portland Press Herald reports that Cianbro is hoping to land the contracts for NCL's planned refurbishment of the S.S. United States and S.S. Independence. "The S.S United States and the Independence are projects that they want to accomplish and we hope to be considered," the newspaper quotes Cianbro president Peter Vigue as saying. "We are in hot pursuit." The Press Herald says that Cianbro and Boston Ship Repair teamed to make an unsuccessful offer to undertake repairs to the S.S. Norway, currently under tow to Europe.
