McCloskey becomes Manitowoc Marine president
The Manitowoc Company has appointed Dennis E. McCloskey president of Manitowoc Marine Group and VP of The Manitowoc Company, effective January 1, 2003. He replaces Thomas J. Byrne, who announced his retirement, this past fall. McCloskey will oversee all aspects of Manitowoc's Marine Group, including Marinette Marine, Bay Shipbuilding, Toledo Shiprepair, and Cleveland Shiprepair.

McCloskey, 60, has been VP and GM of Marinette Marine since 2002. He joined Marinette after serving as VP of Business Development at Manitowoc's Foodservice Group, where he successfully implemented several lean manufacturing projects. As a result of his efforts, Manitowoc posted solid gains in market share and operating margins during his tenure.

"Dennis' track record at our Foodservice Group was outstanding," said Terry D. Growcock, Manitowoc's chairman and CEO. "Since joining Marinette Marine, Dennis has implemented a similar set of process improvement strategies for that organization and we look forward to his leadership in deploying those strategies throughout all operations of our Marine Group."

Before joining Manitowoc, McCloskey was group VP for Tecumseh Products. He also served Frigidaire Company for 18 years in a variety of operational, supervisory, and management positions.. He began his professional business career with Corning Glass Works.

As a captain in the U.S. Marine Corps, McCloskey received the Bronze Star and Purple Heart for his service in the Vietnam War. He earned an M.B.A. from Ashland University, and a bachelor's degree in Business Administration from Temple University.
