December 18, 2003 NYC sues NY Waterway According to press reports, New York City yesterday filed a $1.4 million suit against New York Waterway in Manhattan federal court, claiming the ferry company has failed to pay landing fees at Lower Manhattan's Pier 11 since 9/11. It is also claimed that the ferry operator has caused $186,000 worth of damage to the pier over the past 18 months. The ferry service is being sued for unjust enrichment, breach of contract and negligent injury to property. "Before the events of Sept. 11, 2001, NYW paid its landing fees on a regular basis," the lawsuit claims. "Since Sept. 2001, NYW has continued operations at Pier 11, but has failed to pay nearly all of the landing fees incurred." |
