EC takes Greece to European Court in cabotage dispute

The European Commission is to refer a difference with Greece over cabotage rules to the European Court.

The EC regulation in question is 3577/92. The dispute is over whether Greece can impose its own manning level requirements on inter-island cruise vessels operating in Greek cabotage waters, but flying the flag of another EC state.

The EC believes that by imposing such requirements Greece is interfering in an excessive way with the free provision of services under European Community laws.
