German shipbuilder cooperates with Iranian yard

Iran's Islamic Republic News Agency says that Germany's Thyssen
Nordseewerke (TNSW) has signed a memorandum of understanding with Iran's Sahel Shipbuilding Industries.
The MOU was signed Tuesday following a visit by Iranian Minister of Industries and Mines Eshaq Jahangiri to TNSW's Emden headquarters.
TNSW and Sahel are to cooperate in the fields of shipbuilding and design and the transfer of technology for ships up to 75,000 tons. TNSW and Sahel will alo open a joint design office in Iran.
TNSW specializes in building merchant ships, gas and chemical tankers, frigates, submarines and ice-breaking vessels.
It employs some 1,350 people and has backlog orders of more than
2 billion euros.
