USCG selects next First District Commander
Rear Admiral Vivien S. Crea has been selected to become the 38th First Coast Guard District Commander. Crea will oversee Coast Guard operations for New England and parts of New York and New Jersey, including New York City.
Crea has served as the Coast Guard's Director of Information and Technology and Chief Information Officer since July 2000. Her previous assignments include Chief, Office of Programs, where she was responsible for the Coast Guard's budget and resource allocation and advocacy. She has also served as Commanding Officer of Air Station Clearwater, Fla., the Coast Guard's largest air station; Executive Assistant to the Commandant; and Coast Guard Aide to President Ronald Reagan.
A Coast Guard aviator, Crea has flown both helicopters and fixed wing aircraft. She holds two master's degrees, one from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and one from Central Michigan University, and a bachelor's degree from the University of Texas.
Crea will be assuming the position of First Coast Guard District Commander from Rear Admiral George N. Naccara, who is retiring after a 33-year Coast Guard career. The ceremony celebrating the change of command will occur May 6 at 10 a.m. in Fanieul Hall.
