According to press reports over the weekend, they fear that eventually submarine making would be concentrated at the larger Newport News facility, hitting employment at General Dynamics Electric Boat in Groton, CT. Lawmakers who have reservations include people like Senator Joe Lieberman (D-CT). He sits on the Senate Armed Services Committee. Though both General Dynamics and Newport News have given various assurances about continuing to share nuclear sub construction between the two yards, official merger documents filed with the SEC make no firm guarantees. Unless a stronger commitment to Electric Boat is forthcoming, the proposed merger could have a bumpier ride than initially seemed likely. HOME
